Kathmandu

The Government of Nepal on Wednesday announced a cash prize of Rs600,000 to each members of national cricket team who defeated the United Arab Emirates by seven wickets in the ACC Men’s Premier Cup final on Tuesday to book their ticket to 2023 Asia Cup.

A meeting of the council of ministers decided to reward the players and head coach with the prize. The team officials will receive Rs300,000 each.

The government has also promised to allocate a budget to upgrade the TU Cricket ground to an international standard cricket stadium.

The famous win secured Nepal a place alongside cricket elites India and hosts Pakistan in the Group A of the Asia Cup if the tournament, scheduled to take place in September, go ahead as planned.

Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the super four stage.

This is the first time Nepal have progressed to the Asia Cup since 2002, when they finished runners up in the ACC Trophy. But the tournament did not take place due to the India-Pakistan conflict.
