UAE, Oman pull off impressive wins

The United Arab Emirates and Oman registered impressive wins in their opening matches of the ACC Premier Cup in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
UAE registered a 143-run victory over Kuwait in Group ‘B’ after centuries each from Vriitya Aravind and Rohan Mustafa at the TU ground in Kirtipur. At the Mulpani ground, Oman saw off Qatar by 40 runs in the Group ‘A’ match.
Sent into bat first at the TU ground, UAE amassed a massive total of 371-6 and bowled out Kuwait for 228 runs in 36.3 overs.
Aravind and Mustafa shared a 275-run stand for the UAE after they were off to a shaky start with 24-3 on board. Aravind slammed 185 runs off 147 that studded with 17 hits to the fences and nine sixes. He reached his century facing 118 deliveries.
Mustafa, coming to bat at number five clobbered 118 off 125 that included 10 boundaries and four sixes. Kuwait got rid of their partnerships in the 47th over after Sayed Monid made Mustafa caught by wicketkeeper Usmangani Ibrahim.
The player-of-the-match Aravind was dismissed as fifth wicket in the last over after Ibrahim caught him in Parvindar Kumar’s delivery. Aasif Khan was the other contributor for UAE scoring 30 runs from nine deliveries.
Kuwait bowler Parvindar Kumar and Shahrukh Quddus claimed two wickets each. Kumar gave away 45 runs in his three-over bowling and Quddus conceded 60 runs in his eight overs spell.
Chasing the target, number three batter Kumar and lower middle order batter Sayde Moni scored half centuries each for Kuwait. Monib scored 65 runs off 35, the highest of the innings, that included five boundaries and six sixes. Kumar contributed 53 runs off 26 comprising of one boundary and seven sixes. Captain Mohammed Alsam scored 33 runs.
UAE bowler Junaid Siddique and Karthik Meiyappan grabbed three wickets each. Siddique gave away 32 runs in his seven-over spell and Meiyappan conceded 63 runs in his seven-over bowling.
At the Mulpani ground, put into bat first Oman scored 249-8 and bowled out Qatar for 209 runs in 47.2 overs after Bilal Khan grabbed four wickets.
Oman’s Ayaan Khan contributed unbeaten 64 runs off 59 that included five hits to the fences and a six. Khan, who came to bat at number seven, was declared the player-of-the-match. Captain Zeeshan Maqsood hit 41 runs off 71 and Sandeep Goud contributed 34 runs off 37. Openers Kashyap Prajapati (18), Jatinder Singh (16), Aqib Ilyas (17), Mohammad Nadeem (18) and Adeel Shafique (16) were other remarkable contributors.
Qatar bowlers Muhammad Murad and Amir Farooq clinched three wickets each and Ikramullah Khan picked two wickets. Murad conceded 47 runs in his 10-over spell with a maiden over and Farooq conceded 52 in his 10-over bowling.
Chasing the target, Qatar captain Mohammed Rizlan scored 43 runs off 69, the highest of the innings that included six hits to the fences. Khurram Shahzad (30), Imal Liyanage (27), Ikramullah Khan (26) were among the major contributors for the team.
Oman bowler Bilal Khan returned with figures of 8.2-0-42-4 while Jay Odedra and Aqib Ilyas clinched two wickets each.
