Chhetri leads Province 1 to thumping victory

National team captain Rubina Chhetri-led Province 1 registered their first win inflicting second defeat to Lumbini Province in the Lalitpur Mayor Women’s Championship twenty20 cricket at the TU cricket grounds in Kirtipur on Monday.

Province 1 had lost to Armed Police Force (APF) Club by eight wickets in the opening match on Saturday. It was the second defeat in a row for Lumbini who had faced a 27-run defeat against Lalitpur Mayor's XI in their first fixture on Sunday.
Electing to bat first, former national captain Nary Thapa-led Lumbini posted a paltry total of 104-2. Chasing the target, Province 1 had a cakewalk chasing the target in 13.2 overs. Skipper Chhetri cracked 68 runs off 49 deliveries. The player-of-the-match's innings included 12 fences and a six. Her opening partner Shrestha contributed 25 runs off 32 balls. She hit three boundaries.
Earlier, Saraswati Ganga Magar contributed not out 50 runs off 66 deliveries for Lumbini. She hit five boundaries. Captain Thapa was also unbeaten on 20 runs off 15 balls. She struck three fences. Lumbini opener Nitu Bhandari scored 18 runs before she was run out. Barsha Rana returned to the pavilion without opening an account.
Province 1 bowler Sabnam Rai took one wicket.
There will be two matches on Tuesday with APF Club vying against Lalitpur Mayor's XI and Province 1 taking on Sudurpaschim Province.
