Nepali box-office tabulator launched
The gross collection of Nepali movies can be hard to verify. Even though the gross figures that the producers reveal often make news, the figures are not exact numbers but mere estimates, making the benchmark of what constitutes a box-office hit, or not, fuzzy at best. The gross collection of Nepali movies can be hard to verify. That is slated to change for good as the National Film Development Board recently inaugurated the e-ticketing system—according to which, the value of the ticket purchased will be recorded and later the cumulative collection of a movie will be ascertained.
The system—Central Cinema Management System—was inaugurated amid a function held in the Capital this week; the event saw the presence of Minister of Information and Communication Mohan Bahadur Basnet, chair of Film Development Board Nikita Poudel, coordinator of the system Narendra Maharjan and members Pradeep Kumar Uday, and Akash Adhikari, among others.
The System will be under the management of the Film Development Board and will be operated in coordination with Subisu Network and Datahub.
Speaking at the function, minister Basnet said that he hopes the newly-minted system will prove fruitful for all cine artists and stakeholders. “It’s good news. Now we are also gearing up to establish Dolakha as a film city,” Basnet said.
The system has already gone into operation at the multiplexes around the Valley this week and the system will go on operation in all cinema theatres around the Valley from Nepali new year, in April, and nationwide on July 17.
“The operation of the system will not only be fruitful to theatre operators, artists and distributors but will also help to maintain transparency,” said coordinator Maharjan.
