Play based on Queen Rajendra Laxmi staged
A play based on the life and times of queen Rajendra Laxmi Devi Shah was recently staged at the Shilpee Theatre in Battisputali. Titled Rajendra Laxmi, the play was directed by Pradip Khadgi.
The play’s subject Rajendra Rajya Lakshmi Devi was the wife of king Pratap Singh Shah, the son of Prithvi Narayan Shah. During her eight years of regency, she reportedly contributed to the unification of modern Nepal started by Prithvi Narayan Shah.
The play is written by Prachanda Malla.
According to producers, Kwa: Pa: Theatre Group, the play was staged because it “brings to light the participation of women in the unification campaign.”
The title role of the play was enacted by actress Anna Deuja. Alonside Deuja, the play featured actors Heman Tandukar, Suraj Subedi, Ashmita Poudel, Sanajya Mali, Aayush Pyakurel, Kiral Chapagain, and Anisha Adhikari, among others.
