Along with the award, the films also received a cash purse of Rs 200,000 apiece.
Director Dipendra Lama of Ghampani and a representative for Kalopothi received the award certificate during the ceremony. It was informed that the director of Kalopothi, Min Bahadur Bam could not attend to the ceremony because he was attending Busan film festival in South Korea.
The two films were selected from a pool of 37 movies that the central committee of the board had reviewed in 2073 BS. The films were judged by a panel comprising director Rishi Lamichhane, Uttam Lamichhane, producer Shakti Bhairav Gorasainee and journalist Bishnu Sharma.
Board member Ashok Pyasi Rai said that a film which carries national history in the long run should be the criteria for the selection of the award. According to him, the film board has its own procedure for award selection.
Congratulating both the winning films, Board president Dhakal said that the award is a prize as well as a form of support. “A film can encompass art, literature, culture and anticipate the future. It can sometimes entertain us and make us serious in other times. It is better to judge a movie by its commercial success as well as its artistic values.”
The board president claimed the board has taken a parental role over the Nepali movie industry, and has remained sensitive to the issues of professional rights of the filmmakers. During the programme, a book titled History of Nepali Cinema by Laxmi Nath Sharma was also launched.
