The second iteration of the Innovation in Education Fair is currently ongoing at the Nepal Art Council in the Capital. The four-day fair hosts stalls by 22 different organisations working to make education and classrooms more creative and innovative, along with panel discussions, workshops and creative corners designed to promote interactive education.

The fair—which aims to make learning more effective through practical approaches to education—has various stalls where parents and teachers can interact about making learning and teaching more fun and productive. The event, meant for educators, parents, as well as children, also features workshops, musical performances, dances and theatre.

Speaking to the Post, Sharareh Bajracharya, founder of Srijanalaya—one of the partners of the fair—said, “This year the fair has gotten bigger and better. We have more organisations as well as more visitors this year. The main aim of the fair is to let educators know about the various creative ways that can be employed in educating children and I think so far we have been able to open new windows for both teachers and parents about innovative education.”

She added, “We had discussions panels and workshops where teachers and school administration were directly involved and the amount of enthusiasm they have shown is really good. We had many schools and educators requesting participating organisations to visit their schools and teach them alternative methods of teaching which is a very positive sign.”

“The event was really fun. I wish the schools also taught us like this,” said  Kritayga Lamsal, a 10 year-old student who was learning about centre of gravity by balancing pencil at a ‘creative corner’ hosted by Karkhana, “I am yet to learn about gravity in class but I think this way is more fun and easy to understand than by just learning from the book.”

The organisations present at the fair included The US Embassy Book Bus, Quixote’s Cove, Word Warriors, Srijanalaya, Karkhana, Canopy Nepal, Wildlife Conservation Nepal and others.

The fair will draw to a close on Sunday.
