Photo Circle, a photography platform in Nepal, has decided to make an early announcement of the dates for the upcoming photography festival, Photo KathmanduAccording to a press statement released by the organisation, “the first edition of the festival aims to serve as a platform for interaction between photography, history, anthropology and a wide array of the arts”.
This, the festival intends to accomplish by hosting exhibitions, slide shows, artists talks, workshops and other events, which will be primarily held in public spaces of the Valley. Photo Kathmandu will be running alongside, and in collaboration with, Jazzmandu—an annual music festival that promotes Jazz music and brings together artists from around the world.
The organisers say that the collaboration is “a small aspect of the multidisciplinary spirit of the festival”.
According to the organisers: “The first edition of Photo Kathmandu will work closely with a range of family, community and institutional archives, that present the Nepali past through images, memories and stories, juxtaposing the past, the present, and the future.”
Photo Circle was founded in 2007 with the objective of bringing together photographers and storytellers and to inspire them to document and engage with social change in Nepal. In 2010, the organisation set up the Nepal Picture Library, a digital archiving project, which has been contributing to the study of photography in Nepal.
