Kripa Unplugged to air again
The studio shooting of the second season of the popular television musical program Kripa Unplugged culminated at Studio4 in Bhaisepati, Lalitpur
This season will feature 26 performers, including 16 bands and 10 single artists. Kunti Moktan, Ram Krishna Dhakal, Sabin Rai, Albatross and Prem Pariyar are some of the artists involved this time around.
Unlike the previous year, when artists’ performances were shot only a week prior to an episode’s airing, all the episodes have already been recorded and will be released one by one throughout the six-month-long, 26 episode journey. The recording studio was done up in such a way that it bespoke the seriousness of the endeavour. With Nepali folk instruments dangling down the walls, it was apparent that the episodes would be all about producing serious music.
More importantly, the songs were performed without electronic amplification, thus allowing the vocals centrestage—something that seems out of joint with the present Nepali music scene, where digital productions seem to be the norm.
Sunny Manandhar, the guitarist of the band Albatross, seemed satisfied with his band’s performance. “It’s not every day that we get to do unplugged music. This was real fun and we enjoyed it,” he said.
According to the producers, all the artists involved in producing acoustic versions of their songs were appreciative of the idea behind the show. The producers also disclosed that they were pumped-up for the second season because of the overwhelming response they got from the audience. Aman Pratap Adhikary, the director of the show, seemed extremely enthusiastic about the project too.
“Through Kripa Unplugged we hope to provide Nepali music lovers with quality music done in a different format,” he said. He also added that to give the show a Nepali flavour, he had requested every artist to use at least one Nepali musical instrument while performing.
The producers aim to make the show more versatile and attractive to a diverse audience, and for that reason they’ve included performances by artists from various genres like adhunik, hard rock and pop, and they have even included playback artists.
The show will be aired on Kantipur Television every Saturday from 9—9:30 pm starting from August 23.
