Women-led Dashain Mela to promote local entrepreneurship
The event will showcase local products and family activities, aiming to revive the communal spirit of Dashain gatherings.
Post Report
The Bada Dashain Mela 2025 will take place on September 19 and 20 at Hotel Amuprastha and Banquet from 10 am to 7 pm. Organised by the Women Entrepreneurs Association, in collaboration with Creative Nepal and under the forum of Digital Business Entrepreneurs, it aims to bring together local producers, artisans, and families during the Dashain season.
Visitors can find over 60 stalls showcasing homemade goods, organic products, handicrafts, traditional and indigenous items, Nepali clothing, and local cuisines. The mela will also host a food festival offering momos and activities for children, such as games and face painting, making it accessible to people of all ages. Entry is free.
The organisers say the decision to hold the event comes at a difficult time. On September 8, the nation experienced a tragedy that left many in mourning. Reflecting on this, organiser Sangeeta Rayamajhi said, “We were all drowned in grief, and the spirit of our entrepreneurs was broken. But with time, we realised one truth—life does not stop. In such difficult times, it felt necessary to bring some hope, light, and reason to smile.”
Beyond commerce, the mela aims to recreate the communal spirit once seen in villages, where Dashain brought people together in shared spaces to eat, trade, and celebrate. The event seeks to evoke that tradition in an urban setting, bringing communities together in joy and festivity.
