Renowned composer Nhyoo Bajracharya will take centre stage at this month’s edition of Paleti, the long-running music series hosted by Nepalaya at its R-Sala venue in Kalikasthan. The performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, July 25 and 26.
This marks Bajracharya’s debut appearance at Paleti, and he will be joined by singer Banika Pradhan. The two have been actively rehearsing with the Paleti team in the lead-up to the event. Poet and lyricist Biplav Pratik will host the evening.
Launched over two decades ago, Paleti has established itself as a dedicated platform for celebrating Nepali music and literature. The series has hosted numerous prominent figures from the country’s music scene over the years.
Nhyoo Bajracharya is widely regarded as one of Nepal’s most influential composers. His memorable compositions include hits such as ‘Phoolko Aankhama’, ‘Na Aau Sapana Bhari’, ‘Lai Ja Chari’, ‘Arabau Manche Haruma’, and ‘Sayathari Baja’. He also composed the tune for Aruna Lama’s classic ‘Yo Man Ta Talau Ho’ and has worked with legendary singers like Bacchu Kailash.
Speaking about his upcoming performance, Bajracharya said, “I see Paleti as a bridge that connects today’s listeners with the soul of modern Nepali music. I’ll be giving my all to make this performance unforgettable.” He concluded with a smile and casually strummed his guitar, fingers dancing across the strings.
For singer Banika Pradhan, this is a long-awaited dream come true. “I’ve watched many legends perform on this stage. To now sing here myself is both an honour and a joy,” she said, laughing as she joined Bajracharya in vocal rehearsal.
Poet Biplav Pratik, who will host the show, highlighted Paleti’s cultural significance. “How vibrant a city feels often depends on the music it echoes with. Paleti has kept that echo alive for 20 years,” he said. “Nhyoo Bajracharya’s performance will be a milestone for this series.”
