A socket bomb found in the premises of the District Coordination Committee office in Jumla has been defused by the Nepal Army. The bomb disposal squad from the Devidatta Battalion safely neutralised the device.
According to Inspector Asim Hamal of Jumla District Police Office, the army team reached the site early in the morning after being informed. Personnel from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force were also deployed at the location.
The bomb was discovered on Saturday evening by workers constructing a wall at the committee office. Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Gaurinand Acharya, said the authorities were immediately informed. “After the army disposed of the bomb, the staff felt relieved and secure,” he added.
The explosive is suspected to have been left behind during the Maoist insurgency.
