The boy was one of 12 Syrian refugees feared dead after they drowned trying to cross the Mediterranean for the Greek island of Kos.
According to Turkey’s local news agencies three children and a woman from a small boat drowned. Two people survived after swimming back to shore in life jackets.

Photographs of the boy’s lifeless body quickly spread across social media, first in Turkey and then all across the globe. Human rights activists, observers and reporters say the heartbreaking image could act as a catalyst for the international community to finally stop the war in Syria.

The online outrage comes at a time when European leaders are increasingly trying to prevent refugees from settling in the continent. The little boy is not the only casualties. More and more refugees are dying as they attempt to flee Syria.
There was also a debate on ethics, and whether such image should be circulated or not.
