A day after Special Court remanded him to custody for seven days, Director General of Inland Revenue Department (IRD) Chudamani Sharma has been admitted to Norvic International Hospital for high-blood pressure.
The CIAA arrested Sharma on Friday from his Lazimpat office on the charge of misappropriating billions of rupees, as a member of the Tax Settlement Commission (TSC), and on the suspicion that he could destroy the evidence against him.
Sharma was brought to Bir Hospital on Monday afternoon after complaining of chest pain and dizziness and was later referred to Norvic for further treatment. “He was brought to our hospital. Later, he asked for referral to Norvic saying that he has been following up with a doctor there,” said Dr Bhupendra Basent, director at Bir Hospital.
Norvic authorities could not be immediately reached for comment.
