Responding to a writ filed by DIG Nawaraj Silwal, one of the contenders for the post of inspector general of Nepal Police, a single bench of Chief Justice Sushila Karki on Monday issued the order.
On Sunday, hours after the Cabinet decided to appoint Chand as the new police chief, the apex court had stayed the decision and asked the government to clarify why Chand should be appointed to the post.
The court was responding to a writ filed by Advocate Kapil Dev Dhakal, who in his petition had claimed that the government breached the criteria—competence and seniority among others—while picking the new top cop. DIG Silwal on Sunday itself had moved the court against the Cabinet decision to appoint DIG Chand as the inspector general.
