An adult male elephant was found dead in the no-man’s land near ward 3 of Dodhara Chandani Municipality, Kanchanpur, on Thursday morning.
According to Dr Abhash Shrestha, a veterinarian at Shuklaphanta National Park, the elephant had an injury on its trunk, but no wounds were found on other parts of its body.
“The cause of death is yet to be determined,” said Shrestha. “A post-mortem is being prepared, and further details will be available after that.”
The elephant’s body was found across the Nepal-India border, and an Indian team has also reached the site.
