Nepal thrash US by 122 runs in League 2 finale

Nepal registered a commanding 122-run win over the United States in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Friday.
Chasing 318, the United States were bowled out for 195 in 41.2 overs.
Nepal wrapped up their home League 2 campaign with three wins in four matches. They lost the opening game against Scotland by two runs before beating the United States twice and Scotland once.
In the 2024–26 League 2 cycle, Nepal have now won seven of 12 matches. They sit fifth in the standings with 24 points from 28 games and 11 wins. The United States remain top with 38 points from 28 matches, while Scotland also have 38 points from 32 games but are behind on net run rate.
The United States innings suffered an early blow when Sompal Kami dismissed Smit Patel in the first over. Shayan Jahangir and Saiteja Mukkamalla added 53 runs before Sandeep Lamichhane removed Jahangir for 27 off 34 balls, including one four and two sixes.
Dipendra Singh Airee struck next, bowling Sanjay Krishnamurthi for 26. Lamichhane later removed Milind Kumar for 12 and Mukkamalla for 22. Lalit Rajbanshi dismissed Shubham Ranjane for two and Harmeet Singh for a duck.
Krishnamurthi briefly kept the chase alive with 56 off 44 balls, hitting four fours and four sixes, before Gulsan Jha bowled him. Jha also dismissed Saurabh Netravalkar for 10, while Airee took the wicket of Nosthush Kenjige for 29.

Lamichhane finished with three wickets, while Rajbanshi, Airee and Jha took two each. Kami picked up one wicket.
Earlier, Nepal posted 317/8 after being asked to bat first, their highest ODI total at Kirtipur, surpassing 310/8 against Oman last month.
Ishan Pandey played a key role with 84 off 83 balls, hitting eight fours and a six. It was his second half-century in three matches and his highest ODI score.
Openers Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh gave Nepal a steady start with a 62-run stand. Bhurtel made 29 off 39 balls before being dismissed by Ranjane, while Sheikh scored 43 off 57 before falling to Rushil Ugarkar.
Pandey and captain Rohit Paudel added 110 runs for the third wicket. Paudel made 46 off 59 balls before being trapped lbw by Milind Kumar.
Airee then lifted the scoring with a rapid 59 off 35 balls, bringing up a 29-ball half-century with four boundaries and four sixes as Nepal crossed 300.
Arif Sheikh remained unbeaten on 18 off 10 balls. For the United States, Ranjane took three wickets, while Milind Kumar and Ugarkar claimed one each.
