The decisions made during the 124th board meeting of the National Sports Council on Wednesday showed rays of hope for the 10th National Games being organised in February.
The 123rd board meeting of the National Sports Council (NSC), on November 6, had decided to organise the 10th National Games in Karnali Province from February 13 to 19. It was the fourth time that a new date for the biggest multi-sport event of the country was announced.
Firstly, the event was scheduled for November 17-24 last year. It was then rescheduled for April 5-12 this year and then again for May 17-24.
The National Games holds a major importance as it provides the platform to find out the best athletes in over 30 different sports. The winners in their respective sports are then selected to represent the country in international tournaments. Further, the 10th edition will also see the first edition of the national-level Para Games being organised parallelly.
“The executive committee shall discuss and recommend the number of games and participants for the 10th National Games and 1st Para National Games,” a decision of Wednesday’s meeting states. “The provincial and departmental teams shall also be notified to prepare themselves for the events.”
Similarly, the 124th board meeting, which was chaired by Minister for Youth and Sports Bablu Gupta, also endorsed the National Games Operation Guideline 2081 (Third Amendment).
The board meeting also formally announced Nepal’s participation in the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. The officials also forwarded the expected budget and expenditure, granted to the NSC by the government, for the ongoing fiscal year.
It was also decided that the government will construct a ‘Gen Z Martyrs’ Memorial Park’ on the premises of the International Sports Complex in Satdobato, while also naming the auditorium in the complex to ‘Gen Z Memorial Auditorium’.
