Biratnagar Kings registered their second consecutive win in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) after defeating Kathmandu Gorkhas by five wickets at the TU International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
The Kings comfortably chased the 135-run target in 17.1 overs, becoming the second team after Sudurpaschim Royals to win their opening two matches.
Earlier, Kathmandu, invited to bat first, managed 134 for six in their 20 overs after a faltering start. Mohammad Adil Alam top-scored with an unbeaten 48 off 25 balls, including four fours and two sixes, helping lift the total with a late surge of 63 runs in the final five overs.
Ben Charlesworth made 32, while Santosh Yadav added 26. Kathmandu’s innings, however, was undermined by a top-order collapse that left them 22–3 inside the powerplay.
Marchant de Lange led Biratnagar’s disciplined attack with figures of 2 for 17, while Sandeep Lamichhane, Shubham Ranjane and Surya Tamang took one wicket each.
In reply, Biratnagar’s chase was driven by aggressive batting from George Munsey and Martin Guptill. Lokesh Bam struck 14 off 10 before falling, but Munsey (36 off 16) and Guptill (25 off 19) added 53 off 24 deliveries for the second wicket to put the Kings in control. Basir Ahmed contributed 19, while Naren Bhatta made 24 off 30. Captain Lamichhane finished unbeaten on 9 from three balls.
Sahab Alam claimed two wickets for Kathmandu, with captain Karan KC, Santosh Yadav and Gerhard Erasmus picking up one each.
Kathmandu, who defeated Janakpur Bolts in their first outing, have now suffered consecutive losses following their defeat to Sudurpaschim Royals. Biratnagar, meanwhile, continued their strong start after posting a record 220 in their opening win over Pokhara Avengers.
