The 6th edition of Tiger Cup Volleyball Championship, an international club-level men’s and women’s tournament, will be broadcast live on Kantipur Max. It is the third time that Kantipur will broadcast one of the biggest volleyball tournaments of the country.
Organised at an open ground on the premises of Pokhara Stadium, Tiger Cup is one of the most-viewed volleyball tournaments, both physically and virtually, of the country.
Kantipur Max was announced as the broadcaster of the 6th edition of the tournament during a tripartite agreement signing function at the hall of Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu, on Saturday.
Tiger Group of Pokhara Nepal, the organiser of the event; Kantipur Media Group and Sushree Media signed the trilateral agreement. Sushree Media signed the deal as the marketing and promotional partner.
Tiger Group of Pokhara Nepal is a social organisation investing in the sectors of education, health and sports, since its establishment in 2020.
It is the third time that Kantipur Max will telecast the tournament. But this time, the agreement for the broadcasting rights was signed for three years. Previously, Kantipur Max had covered the Tiger Cup live during its third and fourth editions.
“Sushree Media has been backing us up in the sector since the second edition, and we are proud to have them with us again,” said Narayan Sharma, chairman of Tiger Group. “And we have the biggest media house of the country with us again in the broadcasting sector, that too for three years.”
Likewise, Nepal Volleyball Association’s President Jitendra Bahadur Chand praised Tiger Group for their dedication to the national sport of the country.
“Even the governing bodies of world volleyball—FIVB—and Asian volleyball—AVC—are well aware of the craze of Tiger Cup because the organisers have maintained a top-class standard while organising the event,” Chand, who is also the vice president at the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA), said. “CAVA is also willing to send a technical delegate to facilitate the tournament.”
Further, Chand informed that the sixth edition of Tiger Cup will see participation from the Maldives’ national men’s team. “I had a call with Mohammed Latheef, who is the president of Maldives Volleyball Association as well as CAVA, that they will be sending their senior men’s team for the Tiger Cup,” Chand informed as Tiger Cup organisers erupted in joy.
According to Chand, the Nepal Volleyball Association would also provide every logistic support, such as mats and technical staff, to the Tiger Cup.
There will be a total of seven teams each in the men’s and women’s categories. Alongside the team from the Maldives, Tiger Group’s Sharma said that the organisers were in talks with an Indian club as well. “There will be foreign-based women’s teams as well,” he added.
The winners of the both categories will receive a cash prize of Rs666,666, while the runners-up and third-placed teams will get Rs366,666 and Rs166,666, respectively.
There is a purse of Rs26,666 for the best player, while the best server, setter, blocker, libero, spiker and coach will be awarded Rs11,666 each.
