It is the grand finale of the 2024-25 season of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour, where 38 professional golfers will compete for a whopping prize pool of Rs 1.6 million.

Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship, the grand finale of the 2024-25 season of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour, tees off on Monday at the Gokarna Golf Club.
According to the Nepal Professional Golfers’ Association (NPGA), the championship, which will conclude on June 19, will be played over 72 holes, with a cut applied after 36 holes.
A total of 38 professional golfers will compete in the event for a whopping prize pool of Rs 1.6 million.
“This season-ending championship features the biggest prize purse ever offered in a local tournament,” said Rabindra Man Shrestha, President of NPGA. “There’s great energy among the players. They have been training hard and are eager to finish the season on a high note.”
The winner will walk away with Rs300,000, the runner-up will receive Rs185,000, while the third, fourth and fifth-placed finishers will earn Rs125,000, Rs105,000 and Rs92,000, respectively. All players finishing inside the top 21 will take home prize money.
Additionally, 15 top amateur golfers will join the professionals, bringing added excitement and competition.
Similarly, the top 21 professional golfers and ties, along with amateurs who match the professional cut score, will advance to the final two rounds.
The favourites
Niraj Tamang is well-positioned to finish as Nepal’s top professional. The season’s money leader, Tamang, has already earned Rs742,500 from three victories.
Toran Shahi follows with Rs409,500 and Bhuvan Nagarkoti stands third with Rs364,500.
Sukra Bahadur Rai and Subash Tamang, both of whom regularly compete on the Professional Golf Tour of India, will also be a joy to watch.
Among the amateurs, Nepal’s top-ranked amateur Sadbhav Acharya and Rahul Bishwakarma, who have each claimed a title this season, are poised to mount a serious challenge against the pros.
Nim Dorji Tamang, a top amateur from Bhutan, will also be in Gokarna.
Meanwhile, the Pro-Am event is scheduled for June 21, where 25 professional golfers and 100 corporate-level amateurs will engage in a competitive format designed to offer valuable exposure to emerging talents.
