Nepal are fielding first against hosts Scotland in their third match of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series, after Scottish skipper Richie Berrington won the toss at Forthill on Sunday.
Nepal have gone into the match unchanged after stunning victories over both Scotland and the Netherlands earlier in the week. Captain Rohit Paudel continues to lead a confident Playing XI featuring Aasif Sheikh, Kushal Bhurtel, Bhim Sharki, Aarif Sheikh, Dipendra Singh Airee, Gulshan Jha, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Sandeep Lamichhane, and Lalit Rajbanshi.
Scotland have handed a debut to wicketkeeper-batter Mackenzie Jones, who recently featured in their Under-19 squad. They have also recalled Charlie Peet, who returns to the ground where he recorded a sensational debut last year—taking 7 for 21 against Oman. Jones and Peet replace Jasper Davidson and Jack Jarvis.
This is Nepal’s third outing at Forthill. In the opener, they scripted an unforgettable 1-wicket win over Scotland, chasing down 297 runs—their highest successful ODI chase—courtesy of a match-winning 65 not out from Karan KC on the final delivery.
Nepal followed that up on Wednesday with a clinical 5-wicket win over the Netherlands, led by Aarif Sheikh’s composed 78. These performances have helped Nepal climb to seventh in the eight-team standings with 10 points from 14 games. Scotland, on the other hand, sit fourth with 22 points from 18 matches.
The top four teams will progress to the ICC World Cup Global Qualifier. The USA (28 points), Netherlands (26), and Oman (24) currently hold the top three positions.
Scotland revived their campaign on Friday by beating the Netherlands by 44 runs. Nepal will conclude their League 2 journey on Tuesday with a rematch against the Dutch.
