Jatinder Singh’s 130 powers Oman as Sompal Kami takes four wickets.Post Report
Oman posted a commanding total of 305 for 8 in their 50 overs against Nepal in the 99th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Oman built their innings around a century from captain Jatinder Singh, who struck 130 off 96 balls with 15 fours and five sixes. He anchored the innings through the middle overs before falling in the 35th over.
Oman made a steady start with an 80-run opening stand between Jatinder Singh and Ashish Odedara. However, Nepal struck back through Sandeep Lamichhane, who dismissed Odedara for 23 and Aryan Bisht for 35, finishing with 2 for 24 in his 10 overs.
Nepal’s bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Dipendra Singh Airee picked up 2 for 56, while Sompal Kami was the most successful bowler, claiming 4 for 59 in nine overs. He removed Jiten Ramanandi, Vinayak Shukla, Shakeel Ahmed and Ashish Odedara, breaking Oman’s lower-middle order resistance.
Despite wickets falling, Oman maintained a strong scoring rate throughout. Hammad Mirza contributed 30, while Jiten Ramanandi added 43 off 43 balls. Vinayak Shukla’s quick 23 off 17 balls helped Oman push past the 300-run mark. Wasim Ali remained unbeaten on 12, ensuring a strong finish.
For Nepal, the bowling effort was mixed. While Lamichhane and Airee provided breakthroughs, the attack struggled to contain runs in the death overs, with Oman scoring 38 runs in the final five overs despite losing three wickets.
Nepal now faces a challenging chase of 306 runs to secure victory in Kirtipur. The target requires a strong batting performance from the top order, led by captain Rohit Paudel, Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh.
