The ninth edition of the PM Cup-NVA Women’s and Men’s Volleyball League will be hosted by the city of Pokhara, the Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA) announced on Friday.
Organising a press conference in Kathmandu, NVA officials said that the multi-purpose covered hall of Pokhara Stadium will host the tournament from May 22 to 29.
There will be eight men’s teams and six women’s teams competing in their respective categories. NVA revealed that they will give continuity to the teams from the previous edition.
“We could not organise the qualifiers—Club Championship—before the league due to the uncertainty of the 10th National Games and the busy schedule of other domestic tournaments,” said Jitendra Bahadur Chand, the NVA president.
Help Nepal Sports Club, Nepal APF Club, Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club, Koshi Province, Gandaki Province, Sudurpaschim Province and Manimukunda Volleyball Club will be the teams in the men’s event.
In the women’s category are Nepal APF Club, Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club, Tip Top New Diamond Youth Sports Club, Everest Volleyball Club and Karnali Province. The clubs are allowed to have three foreign players each.
“The tournament will be sponsored by the National Sports Council,” Chand said. He also cited that the association aims to generate good income from ticket sales in Pokhara.
NVA has estimated a budget of Rs9 million for the tournament. Of that, Rs3.2 million will be spent on prize money.
The previous edition saw Help Nepal and Police emerge victorious in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
