The Netherlands secured a thrilling one-wicket win over Thailand in the Women’s T20 Triangular Series, reaching the 110-run target on the final ball of the match. The exciting win on Thursday ensured that the title race would go down to the wire on the last day of the competition.
Chasing 110 runs, the Dutch team crossed the line in the last over, with Silver Siegers playing a key role by scoring the winning runs off the final delivery. Thailand, who had opted to bat first after winning the toss, posted 109 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.
Both the Netherlands and Thailand have secured five victories, but the Dutch have completed all six of their matches, while Thailand will face Nepal in their final game on Friday. If Thailand defeat Nepal, they will be crowned champions. However, if Nepal win, the title will be decided based on net run rate between the Netherlands and Thailand.
The team with the most points, following each side’s three encounters, will claim the title. This was the Netherlands' first win over Thailand in the series, having suffered two defeats in previous encounters. Before this match, the Dutch had won three games, all against Nepal, but had lost twice to Thailand.
Phebe Molkenboer top-scored for the Netherlands with 32 runs off 42 balls, including two boundaries, while Robine Rijke contributed 20 runs off 21 balls, and Sterre Kalis added 14 runs to help guide the team to victory.
Despite a brilliant bowling effort from Thailand’s Thipatcha Putthawon, who took 4 wickets for 12 runs in her 4 overs, the Dutch batting lineup held its nerve in the closing stages. Onnicha Kamchomphu (3 wickets) and Phannita Maya (2 wickets) also contributed to the Thailand effort, but it was not enough to prevent the Netherlands’ dramatic win.
Earlier, Thailand had posted a total of 109 runs, with Nattaya Boochatham contributing a crucial 15 runs, while Chanida Sutthiruang made 32 runs. The Thai side, however, struggled early in their innings, losing key wickets early on. They managed to recover through a strong middle-order partnership between Sutthiruang and Natthakan Chantham (36 runs), but their total was still not enough to defend.
The thrilling encounter has left the tournament in a tense situation, with all eyes now on the final game between Thailand and Nepal, which will determine the winner of the title.
