Adhikari, Shrestha win Protein run
Adhikari clocks 1:7:33 to clinch men’s half-marathon gold. Shrestha takes 1:20:19 to win women’s gold.Sports Bureau
Tribhuvan Army Club athlete Dipak Adhikari and Dhading’s Santoshi Shrestha won the Right to Protein Run Half-marathon in Kathmandu on Saturday.
Adhikari, a double gold medallist of Asian Cross Country Athletics Championship, clocked 1 hour 7 minutes and 33 seconds to complete the 21.0975km distance to clinch the gold and defend the trophy.
Armed Police Force Club’s South Asian Games gold medallist (5,000m race) Gopi Chandra Parki took 1:7:42 to win the silver while Tirtha Pun of Parbat bagged the bronze timing 1:7:43. Army’s Narendra Rawan and Khadak Bahadur Khadka finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Shrestha, gold medallist at SAG (10,000m) and Dhaka Marathon 2024 (42.195km) completed the women’s half-marathon with a time of 1:20:19 for gold. Nepal Police Club’s Ram Maya Budha took silver after taking 1:21:56.
Dhaka Marathon silver medallist and APF runner Pushpa Bhandari won bronze timing 1:23:02. Bhandari was a gold medallist at Dhaka Marathon 2023.
Army’s Purna Laxmi Neupane and APF’s Fulmati Rana were fourth and fifth respectively.
The top five finishers of both the men’s and women’s category were rewarded with cash prizes of Rs100,000, Rs75,000, Rs50,000, Rs40,000 and Rs30,000, respectively.
The event also featured a men's 10km race, which was dominated by Army athletes.
Mukesh Bahadur retained the title clocking 31:18.57. Sanjay Shrestha (31:24.14) and Rajendra Rai (31:34.38) finished second and third, respectively. Subhas Karki was fourth and Shreekas Rai became fifth. They earned Rs50,000, Rs40,000, Rs30,000, Rs20,000 and Rs10,000, respectively.
Army’s Srijana Pandey won the women’s 5km race taking 21 minutes 30 seconds. Police’s Rajpura Pachhai (21:38) and Army’s Nirmala KC (22:30) finished second and third, respectively.
The event also included women’s 5km race, school boys’ 5km, school girls’ 3km and wheelchair race.
