Satdobato Youth Club dispatched Nayabasti Youth Club 3-1 while Khulamtar dispatched Bansbari 2-1 in the Martyrs Memorial ‘B’ Division League football tournament at the ANFA complex in Satdobato on Monday.
Satdobato win ensured they advance to the Super League as Group ‘A’ winners while Ranapokhari Corner Team (RCT) joined them in the last-four as runners-up from the pool. Satdobato finished with 11 points, three ahead of RCT. Tushal Youth Club and Shree Bhagawati have already confirmed their Super League berths from Group ‘B’. Tushal advanced as Group ‘B’ winners with 11 points while Shree Bhagawati qualified as runners-up with 10 points. Nayabasti Youth Club, who finished bottom of Group ‘A’ with four points, and Bansbari, who ended up at rock bottom in Group ‘B’ with two points, will now start their next season with one point penalty. Both the teams will also be fined Rs 50,000 each next season.
In the first game of the day, Nayabasti failed to make the most of a well-placed Sajan Rai freekick from the right wing as Sunil Tamang’s close range header fell a bit too wide of the post in the ninth minute. Niraj Maharjan netted two minutes later from 15 yards after the Nayabasti defense failed to clear the ball from the danger area. They could have extended their lead in the 24th minute had not Saroj Rai’s attempted chip from 15 yards rattled the crossbar.
In the 35th minute, Sajan Rai headed home the equaliser from eight yards out in a Lila Bahadur Thapa Magar’s left wing cross. Nayabasti missed a chance to add to their tally in the first half injury time as Satdobato custodian Nishan Thapa Magar denied Sabal Malla’s shot in one-on-one encounter.
Satdobato regain the lead 16 minutes after the break when Bimal KC found the net from five yards. Nayabasti’s Sabal Malla should have done better than just shooting off target in the 71st minute. He was also at fault 10 minutes later as he shot straight into the grateful hands of goalkeeper Magar.
Satdobato kept on building pressure on the Nayabasti defense. In the 84th minute, Gaurav Jung Rana fouled Satdobato’s Bhuwan Basnet, who stepped in to deliver the freekick from just a few yards of the area. But Nayabasti goalkeeper Krishna Chaudhary made a good effort to get a crucial fingertips to the ball. The miss didn’t prove too costly as Ajay Raut added to Satdobato’s tally three minutes later with a solid strike from the edge of the area that the diving keeper couldn’t get his hands on.
In the second match, Khumaltar beat Bansbari to avoid one point penalty and Rs 50,000 fine next season.Sabin KC gave Khumaltar the 33rd minute lead before Dinesh Karki drew level. But Nirmal Gurung scored crucial goal through penalty in the 58th minute to seal Khumaltar win. The Super League begins from March 1.
