Shree Bhagawati Club and Bansbari Club shared points after a thrilling 2-2 draw in the Martyrs Memorial ‘B’ Division League football tournament at the ANFA complex in Satdobato on Thursday.
The result did not change Group ‘B’ standings as Bhagawati remained second with seven points from four matches while Bansbari are still rooted at the bottom of the six-team pool with two points from four games.
Bansbari missed an opportunity to get on the scoresheet in the 3rd minute as Bhisma Raj Ghimire mistimed a close range header that still fell nicely for Anuj Bhandari to have a shot at goal only to head it straight into Bhagwati custodian Bishal Sunar. In the 11th minute, Bhagawati made of the freekick that was awarded after Yadu Silwal shoved Darshan Gurung almost in midfield. Aash Bahadur Gurung headed the ball into the net of a well placed Karfu Rasaili freekick.
Bhagawati could have rubbed more salts on Bansbari’s wound but Anil Rana Magar’s shot at goal from eight yards out sailed over the crossbar in the 15th minute. The missed chance didn’t prove too costly as Magar’s mistimed attempt at goal from 10 yards in the 33rd minute landed nicely for Karlosh Bakhariya to head the ball into the net after initially directing it into the crossbar.
Bansbari pulled a goal back in the 67th minute as Mahendra Karki’s close range shot found the back of the net. Four minutes later, Bhagawati could have added to their tally had not Anil Rana Magar applied a weak shot wide from the area following a Karlosh Bakhariya through ball.
In the 84th minute, Bhagawati custodian Bishal Sunar denied Arun Limbu’s freekick with a timely save after the striker was tripped by Anil Tamang. Five minutes later, Bansbari were awarded another freekick when Sagar Shrestha pushed Bansbari’s Raj Kandangwa. Dinesh Karki stepped in to slot in an equalizer that was a bit too high for goalkeeper Sunar to defend.
Bansbari could have turned the tables around in the injury time. Anuj Bhandari’s shot from inside the area rebounded off a Bhagwati defender’s chest but the ball was still in the danger zone. Sudansh Mahato went for the header but goalkeeper Sunar pouched on to gather the ball.
In the second match of the day, Nayabasti Youth Club defeated Boys Union Club 2-0 for their first win in four matches. Sajan Rai gave Nayabasti the 22nd minute goal before Shani Kumar Chaudhary sealed their win adding the second in the 65th minute. The victory lifts Nayabasto one spot up to fifth with four points while pushing BUC to the bottom of the six-team Group ‘A’. BUC had two points from four matches.
