Shree Kumari Club beat Nayabasti Yuba Club 2-0 in the Martyrs Memorial ‘B’ Division League at the ANFA complex in Satdobato on Sunday.
The outcome did not change the Group ‘A’ standings as Shree Kumari remained in second with six points from three matches, one adrift of leaders Satdobato Youth Club. Nayabasti are still rooted at the bottom of the six-team standings with just one points from three games.
Shree Kumari showed their offensive approach early on with Sujan Maharjan headed attempt on a Rukesh Shrestha corner went agonisingly wide. Nayabasti custodian Krishna Chaudhari blocked a close range header from Bibek Chaudhary seven minutes later. Bibek had another chance on the rebound but ended up shooting above the crossbar.
Nayabasti were unlucky not to have taken the lead in the 36th minute as Anuj Thapa’s shot at the far post rattled the upright. Nayabasti survived a big scare when Subash Tamang almost inadvertently netted an own in an attempt to clear a Sujan Maharjan cross inside the area in the first half stoppage time. The ball hit Tamang’s leg and rolled whiskers away for a corner. Seconds later Bibek provided Shree Kumari the lead scoring on a goalmouth melee following a corner from captain Rukesh Shrestha.
Nayabasti came close to equalising four minutes after resumption only for Khem Raj Tamang’s header to find the woodwork. Despite the Nayabasti pressure, it was Shree Kumari who added to their tally to all but secure victory in the scoring in the counter attack. With just Nayabasti goalkeeper Krishna to beat, Shree Kumari skipper Shrestha had an easy job to lob the ball over the unguarded custodian.
Shree Kumari could have added more salts on the Nayabasti wounds in the 53nd minute when Sujan Maharjan struck the pole in one-on-one with goalkeeper Krishna. Deependra Budha also had the opportunity to extend Shree Kumari’s lead in the 59th minute but ended up shooting straight into the grateful hands of Krishna. Nayabasti came close to pull one back in the 73rd minute but a close range shot from Suman Rai sailed high.
Madhyapur Youth Association beat Bansbari 1-0 in the second match of the day with Ronish Dheke Rajbahak scoring the winner in the 15th minute. The result meant Madhyapur climbed to third in the Group ‘B’ standings with six points from three matches, while Bansbari remained in fifth with just one points. Tushal Youth Club lead the six-team pool with seven points from three matches. Pulchowk are in second on better goals difference despite tying on six points with Madhyapur.
