Shree Bhagawati Club hammered Khumaltar Yuba Club 5-0 in the Martyrs Memorial ‘B’ Division League at the ANFA complex on Wednesday.

The result meant Bhagawati open their account with three points and climb up to second place in Group ‘B’ standings while Khumaltar are still reeling at the bottom of the six-team pool with their second consecutive defeat.

Bhagawati could have made early inroads into the match had Darshan Gurung in the 11th minute and Anil Rana Magar in the 21st minute not been off target.

However, Bhagawati took the lead they were looking for in the 43rd courtesy an own goal. Karfu Rasaili delivered a freekick that Bhagawati forward Mohan Magar attempted at goal from well inside the area and the ball deflected off defender Sanjog Chamling’s foot into his own net. It opened up the floodgates for Bhagawati and in the 49th minute Darshan Gurung completed an easy goal in a one-on-one with Khumaltar goalie Anish Shrestha.

Bhagawati extended their lead as Anil Rana Magar netted a perfectly placed ball of a Karfu Rasaili freekick from just a few yards away from the area in the 56th minute. Anjesh Lama found the back of the net with an easy chip from just inside the area in the 74th minute to extend the lead. Karlosh Bakhariya completed the rout with the fifth goal in the 83rd minute, jinking past goalkeeper Shrestha before slotting home the goal.

Khumaltar had a chance to salvage some pride in the 87th minute only for Bhagawati custodian Bishal Sunar to punch out a Sabin KC’s headed attempt on a Rejan Majhi cross. Bhagawati should have added to their tally in the stoppage time but goalkeeper Shrestha made a brilliant save to deny Mohan Magar.

Satdobato Youth Club and Boys Union Club (BUC) played a 1-1 draw in another match of the day. Birendra Limbu provided Satdobato the 23rd minute lead but Susan Lama struck in the 54th minute to salvage a point for BUC.
