Nepal National and International Players Association (NNIPA) on Tuesday signed sponsorship agreement with Centre for Ideal Society Nepal (CISN) for the NNIPA Player of the Year scheduled for December 28.
The umbrella organisation of country’s national and international athletes annually honours one male and female player each from 29 different sports disciplines.
This year the athletes from the sports disciplines that participated in the National Sports Council Championships are going to be considered for the award.
On Tuesday, CISN and NNIPA signed the agreement that would see the former providing Rs 100,000 for the next three years to sponsor the sports journalism award which carries a purse of Rs 25,000. The remaining amount will be used in the management of the award ceremony. CISN Chairperson Sapana Lama and NNIPA President Deepak Shrestha signed the MoU during a press meet.
Lama, a former national karate player and women’s national team footballer, said the association with the award came with a cause. “Being a former player myself, I know how good it feels when we win any award. Irrespective of the quantity of the award, it’s the recognition that continues to motivate athlete. So we decided to go ahead with this award,” said Lama.
Shrestha said his organisation was honoured to get another sponsorship on board. “We recently signed agreement with a bank. To get CISN chipping in for the next three years is a huge motivation for us. This has encouraged us to do even better and come up with more programmes,” said Shrestha.
NNIPA recently also signed agreement with Janata Bank which will be sponsoring Rs 100,000 for the best male and female player of the year. Out of the 29 sports disciplines, NNIPA is also picking up two overall best players in male and female category for the award. The winners from the 29 sports disciplines will get Rs 10,000 apiece.
Apart from the player of the year and sports journalist honour, NNIPA will also fetes senior sports personality with Gajaraj Joshi Ideal Player Award. The winner of the award sponsored by Gajaraj Joshi Trust will get Rs 25,000.
