Bhawana Ghimire resigns as CEO, to work under ICC
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bhawana Ghimire on Friday said she has tendered her resignation to the suspended ad-hoc committee of the cricket governing body.
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bhawana Ghimire on Friday said she has tendered her resignation to the suspended ad-hoc committee of the cricket governing body.
Ghimire informed about her resignation through her official twitter account on the day when the International Cricket Council (ICC) said it was soon sending a delegation to Nepal to address the ongoing deadlock in country’s cricket governing body.
ICC had suspended both the controversially elected committee and the ad-hoc committee on April 25 citing dual existence of the cricket governing body of Nepal. The National Sports Council had formed the ad-hoc committee, the body that handed her a five-year contract extension after the elected body’s denial to do so.
“At a time when CAN is defunct and the development work on standstill, there is no point in sticking with the post. I have several plans for the game but in the current deadlock, those plans cannot be executed,” Ghimire told The Kathmandu Post. “I would rather like to stay outside CAN and help Nepali cricket,” she added.
On June 7, ICC had nominated Ghimire to assist in Nepali cricket’s local operations under the management of the world cricket governing body. She said she will continue to work for Nepali cricket under the role provided by ICC. “Working under ICC and serving as CEO of CAN is completely a different issue. We have several tournaments coming up and many more works left to be done. I will continue doing the tasks assigned by the ICC although I have resigned as a CEO,” added Ghimire.
Nepal recently hosted the World Cricket League Championship matches against Namibia under a complete ICC management. Ghimire was one of the local organisers assisting ICC in the organisation of the game.
