Janakpur stun APF, claim title
Region 7 (Janakpur) stunned Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club by five runs in a low-scoring final to win the Prime Minister Cup Women’s Twenty20 Cricket TournamentLal Prasad Sharma
Put into bat first, Janakpur fell to a lowly 45 all out in 17.3 overs thanks to a disciplined APF bowling. But APF—considered a stronghold of the women’s cricket in domestic circuit, surprising fell short of the victory target, dismissed for just 40 runs in 17.5 overs.
Saraswoti Chaudhary top scored for Janakpur with 12 runs in a miserable total with Kabita Gautam and Roji Kadari chipping in the next best score of eight runs each. Karuna Bhandari returned with an enviable figures of 3-3 in two overs while R Chhetri took 2-4 off four overs. Ritu Kanojiya, Sarita Magar and Nira Rajopadhyaya also grabbed one wicket each.
In reply, APF succumbed to the pressure created by Chaudhary duo—Saraswoti and Santoshi—to fall short of the meagre target. Santoshi took 3-7 and Saraswoti 2-7 from their four overs. Anuradha Chaudhary, Kabita Gautam and Shanti Chaudhary also bagged one wicket each for Janakpur.
Earlier, Region 9 (Dhangadi) beat Region 1 (Biratnagar) by seven wickets in the third-place playoff. Biratnagar managed 71-5 in rain-reduced 14-over match before Dhangadi overcame the total for the loss of three wickets in 13.2 overs.
Janakpur collected top prize of Rs 50,000 while APF received Rs 30,000. Dhangadi walked away with Rs 20,000. Anuradha was adjudged the player-of-the-tournament and earned Rs 10,000. She scored a total of 94 runs while also claiming seven wickets.
Anuradha’s teammate Sobha Ale won the best batswoman award for scoring 107 runs during the league stages. Trishna Singh of Region 5 (Nepalgunj) was declared the best bowlers for the nine-wicket haul in league stages. Apsari Begam of Biratnagar was honoured with Emerging Player award.
