Rebel Veeps take Anfa scam to Fifa
The two vice-presidents of the All Nepal Football Association have requested the Fifa to investigate on the possible misappropriation in the Anfa.Vice-presidents Karma Tshering Sherpa and Bijay Narayan Manandhar have written to Michael Garcia, Fifa’s Ethics Committee Chief, General Secretary Jerome Valcke and AFC General Secretary Dato Alex Soosay to probe into how the funds that came to Nepal from both Fifa and AFC were used by Thapa and vice-president Lalit Krishna Shrestha.
The e-mail sent on Wednesday states: “We have reason to believe that Mr. Thapa and Shrestha have potentially violated the Fifa Code of Ethics and Anfa statues, possibly including but not limited to Fifa article 13, 15, 18-21 and Anfa articles 32(2), and 34 (1,2 and 4).
British news agency Reuters on Saturday disclosed a portion of the letter sent to Garcia. “We want the Fifa to find out how the money it has sent for the development of the game has been misused,” Sherpa said. The letter has a 12 page attachment which includes the directives given by the Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament to ‘put on hold’ the power of four Anfa officials including president Thapa for the duration of the investigation. The PAC recently concluded that President Thapa and Anfa have misused Rs 580 million.
Anfa defies PAC directive, holds meeting
Defying the order from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Parliament and the options given by Youth and Sports Ministry, Anfa on Saturday held its central commiteee meeting making several decisions. The PAC had on Monday reminded the Ministry to ensure it follows its September 28 directive to “put on hold” the authorities of Anfa officials including President ( Ganesh Thapa), General Secretary (Dhirendra Pradhan), Treasurer (Birat Jung Shahi) and a person that oversaw the construction of Anfa Academy building, until a probe over a possible misappropriation of Rs 580 million is concluded. The Ministry had suggested either to implement PAC order, suspend the officials and select a new president from the rest of executive members.
