Rai, Budha cruise to Kathmandu Marathon titles
Bhumi Raj Rai of Nepal Police Club won the Real Kathmandu Marathon on Saturday.
Rai completed the 42.195km marathon in 2:26:30 to win the title. Rajan KC (2:27:27) and Ram Bhandari (2:27:31) both of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) finished second and third respectively in the marathon which began from the Dashrath Stadium had gone Jamal, Lainchour, Chakrapath, Chabahil, Gaushala, New Baneshwor, Thapathali before concluding at Tripureshwor.
Anish Thapa prevailed in the half marathon clocking 1:08:38 followed by Gyan Prasad Bhattarai 1:08:38 and Laxman Tahpa 1:10:in the second and third spot.
Bishwo Rupa Budha bagged the women’s half marathon title. She completed the distance in 1:27:18. Geeta Khatri (1:35:32) and Jaya Rai (1:36;21) were second and third respectively.
Dinesh Khatri, Shankar Man Thapa and Tika Ram Katuwal made the podium finishes in the 5km open race. Santoshi Shrestha won the women’s category while Phulmati Rana and Laxmi Khadka finished second and third respectively.
TAC dominated the wheel chair event with Raju Katuwal, Nara Bahadur Dahal and Ram Bahadur Tamang claiming gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
