Ncell NPL: Jagdamba take giant stride
Shakti Gauchan-led Jagdamba Giants defeated Sagarmatha Legends by 47 runs under Duckworth/Lewis method to reach the Ncell Nepal Premier League (NPL) at the Kanchanpur grounds on Thursday.Chitranga Thapa & Bhawani Bhatta
Put in to bat first, three major contributions pushed Jagdamba Giants to 193-8 in 50 overs. Medium pacers Nizamuddin Ansari and Suvankar Sanyasi effectively shut out Legends chances reducing them to 32-7 in 16.3 overs before bad light stopped the play at 136-9 after 42.5 overs.
Ansari and Sanyasi struck at regular intervals as Legends batsmen surrendered meekly to the accurate pace from two frontline seamers. Rupesh Srivastav and No 9 Chandra Sawad fought back with a 71-run stand for the eighth wicket. Gauchan broke the stand removing Sawad in the 39th over.
Srivastav went on to add another 35 runs with Nischal Pandey (10 not out) but his dismissal off Sanyasi meant game over for Legends as bad light put an end to the game. Srivastav made 47 off 76 balls. Sawad scored 41 off 79 with two fours and a six.
Man-of-the-match Ansari finished with the magical figures of 4-20 from 10 overs with two maiden and Sanyasi took 3-28 from 9.5 overs. Prem Tamang and skipper Gauchan had one scalp apiece.
Earlier, Giants were reduced to 33-3 in 12.3 overs after they lost openers Mahesh Chhetri (19) and Amit Shrestha (four) followed by a four-ball duck of Hashim Ansari. Bhupendra Thapa and Naresh Budhayer then played sensible knocks adding 71 runs for the fourth wicket. Naresh made 32 off 44 with two fours before running himself out in 28th over.
The Giants were 111-5 in 30 overs after losing Suvendu Pandey (naught) but Thapa held firm adding another 36 with Gauchan. Giants lost three wickets for eight runs. But it was skipper Gauchan who pushed the total close to 200 after a 37-run partnership with Nizamuddin (3).
Thapa scored 57, his 105-ball knock featuring seven fours. Gauchan remained unbeaten on 44 from 66 balls. Pandey, Rahul Kumar BK and Lal Bahadur Adhikari picked up two wickets each.
