Two people died in a collision on the Palpa–Butwal road section of the Siddharth Highway on Saturday.

The accident occurred when a tipper, travelling towards Butwal, struck a motorcycle in the same direction.

The deceased were identified as 31-year-old Milan Sarki from Kaligandaki Rural Municipality, Gulmi and 28-year-old Sita Rana of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City-8, Sukkhanagar, police said.

Police teams from Dobhan station rushed the injured motorcycle rider and pillion rider to Lumbini Provincial Hospital in Butwal, where doctors pronounced them dead. The tipper driver is in police custody.

A police team under Deputy Superintendent of Police Hom Prakash Chaudhary is investigating the incident.

The Palpa–Butwal road sees more than 500 tippers daily. Overloaded and speeding tippers frequently fail to give way, contributing to a high number of accidents.
