A mahout at the Khadakbar elephant stable in Banke National Park was killed in an elephant attack on Wednesday night.
Asharam Tharu, 45, from Banu Gaun in ward 9 of Thakurbaba Municipality, Bardiya, was attacked while feeding the elephant, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Patali of the District Police Office, Banke.
According to Birendra Prasad Kandel, senior conservation officer at the park, the 18-year-old male elephant had a history of attacking people. Tharu had accompanied the elephant when it was brought from Bardiya in 2016.
