CPN-UML candidate Bhim Prasad Acharya has emerged victorious in Sunsari-2 as per the final results of the federal polls.
Acharya defeated Sitaram Mahato of the Nepali Congress by a margin of 5,950 votes. Acharya received 32,008 votes as Mahato settled at 26,058 votes.
Acharya joined student politics in 2036 BS and held different responsibilities. He was elected central committee member of the party in 2055 BS through the sixth general convention held in Nepalgunj.
Acharya also worked as a secretary at the party central office from 2057 BS to 2058 BS and was Koshi zone In-charge of the party from 2058 BS to 2065 BS. He became the party’s secretary through the ninth general convention.
He severed as Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation in 2070 BS and became Province 1 Chief Minister for three months in 2078 BS.
