NCP expels seven leaders, including Haribol Gajurel, over rebel candidacies
Party takes disciplinary action against leaders who defied official decisions by filing rival nominations for the March 5 parliamentary electionsPost Report
The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has expelled seven leaders, including Haribol Gajurel, for going against official candidates in the upcoming House of Representatives elections.
NCP coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal, in a statement issued on Saturday, said that the action was taken under clause 106 of the party statute as a disciplinary measure. The party described the candidacies as “rebellious”, filed in defiance of official decisions and directives.
Those expelled are Haribol Gajurel (Sindhuli), Maheshwar Dahal (Sindhuli), Kul Prasad KC (Dang), Major Rai (Udayapur), Dharmanath Sah (Siraha), Rajkumari Sah (Siraha), and Jibachha Sah (Siraha). The disciplinary action has included the rebel candidates, their proposers, supporters and campaigners.
In Sindhuli-2, dissent emerged after the party selected former lawmaker Lekhnath Dahal as its official candidate, prompting Gajurel’s faction to rebel and field Maheshwar Dahal as a rival candidate.
Similarly, in Dang-1, Kul Prasad KC—also a former chief minister of Lumbini province—filed a rebel candidacy against official NCP nominee Metmani Chaudhary.
In Siraha-4, Dharmanath Sah entered the race under the banner of the UML after failing to secure an NCP ticket, while in Udayapur-2, Major Rai registered as an independent candidate, citing denial of the party ticket.
