Parliament deadlock to end as Prime Minister Oli set to address House
Opposition parties to allow House to resume business from Sunday.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will address the House of Representatives on Monday. The understanding was reached on Friday following a discussion involving Speaker Devraj Ghimire and chief whips of ruling and opposition parties.
The House deadlock began after Monday’s Cabinet meeting dismissed Nepal Electricity Authority’s Managing Director Kulman Ghising. In response, opposition parties have obstructed parliamentary proceedings, demanding that the prime minister himself provide a satisfactory explanation.
The government had proposed that either the relevant minister or the deputy prime minister respond on its behalf, but the opposition insisted that only the prime minister’s statement would be acceptable.
Following the meeting, CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula told reporters that Prime Minister Oli would address parliament at the meeting on Monday and that Sunday’s sitting would proceed smoothly. However, he criticised the opposition for refusing to let Friday’s session continue, despite their demand being met.
Bartaula said the ruling party had urged the opposition to allow proceedings to move forward and highlighted the urgency of passing five replacement bills in the National Assembly by Sunday. He said that despite these discussions, the opposition remained unwilling to let Friday’s meeting take place, though an understanding has been reached to ensure the smooth operation of the House starting Sunday.
