A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Hyderabad, India, on charges of murdering his partner and dumping her body in a suitcase, according to Indian media reports.
The accused, identified as Vijay Topa, allegedly killed 33-year-old Tara Bohara, also a Nepali national, on May 23 after an argument over her pregnancy. Police investigations revealed that the two had been in a live-in relationship since April, after Bohara moved to Hyderabad from Nepal to live with Topa.
Bohara, who was previously married and had two children, met Topa through Facebook. The couple initially lived together in a rented room in Hyderabad but had frequent disputes after Bohara became pregnant.
Reports say Topa pressured her to have an abortion, which she refused, leading to repeated arguments.
According to Telangana Today, Topa strangled Bohara with a nylon rope during one of their disputes. The following day, he bought a trolley bag from a local store in Kukatpally, concealed the body inside, and disposed of it in a secluded area of Bachupally.
On June 4, locals discovered the suitcase and alerted the police. Based on CCTV footage, police tracked Topa purchasing the bag and arrested him on Thursday. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, according to Bachupally police.
Authorities said five special investigation teams were deployed to solve the case. Police scanned footage from 70 different bag stores before identifying the suspect. Further investigation is ongoing.
