Four people reported missing after the Bhotekoshi floods were found dead in India, with Indian police handing over their bodies to Nepal Police on Sunday.

The bodies were recovered from a river in India’s Maharajganj district and handed over to Nepal Police, according to Madan Thapa, deputy superintendent of police at the District Police Office in Nawalparasi West.

The bodies have been kept at Prithvi Chandra Hospital in Parasi for identification.

In Nawalparasi West, authorities have so far recovered 54 bodies and 28 human remains along the banks of the Narayani river following the floods.

Authorities are preparing for the DNA tests on the recovered remains and, after identification, will bury those that remain unclaimed in a pit dug at Mulpani Community Forest in Sunwal Municipality.
