Guterres offers condolences over deadly floods in Nepal, China

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed condolences over the loss of life and widespread destruction caused by severe flooding in Nepal and China on Wednesday.
Guterres was saddened by reports of deaths and people still missing, as well as extensive damage caused by the floods, his spokesperson said in a statement.
He offered condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He also expressed solidarity with all those affected.
In Nepal, the United Nations is supporting the government-led response, including efforts to assess the extent of the disaster and deliver immediate assistance, the statement said.
UN agencies and humanitarian partners are mobilising supplies and personnel to support affected communities.
Guterres praised emergency responders working to save lives and reaffirmed the UN’s readiness to provide further assistance.
