Dengue infections in Baglung district have climbed to 289 in a single month, following a sharp rise in cases during the first month of fiscal year 2026-27, from July 17 to August 15.

According to public health officials, the monthly tally has already surpassed the 250 cases recorded across the district during the entire previous fiscal year.

Praveen Sharma, chief of the Public Health Office in Baglung, said Baglung Municipality recorded the highest number of cases over the past month, with 210 infections. Among the district’s 10 local units, Galkot Municipality reported 31 cases, Kathekhola Rural Municipality 15, Jaimini Municipality nine, Dhorpatan Municipality three, Badigad Rural Municipality two, and Bareng and Tamankhola rural municipalities one each. Another 17 infected people had arrived from outside the district.

Patients are currently receiving treatment at Dhaulagiri Provincial Hospital, Burtibang District Hospital and Galkot Municipal Hospital.

Dr Kiran Tiwari, medical superintendent of Dhaulagiri Provincial Hospital, warned that dengue transmission could continue through November and urged the public to take precautions. He said most patients who have sought treatment for fever in recent days have tested positive for dengue.

Dengue is transmitted through the bites of infected mosquitoes. Health experts advise people to eliminate stagnant water, keep areas around their homes clean and use mosquito nets while sleeping.

With the number of patients rising steadily each day, local authorities have stepped up measures to prevent and control vector-borne diseases.

Dengue testing facilities have been set up at Burtibang Hospital, Galkot Municipal Hospital, Kushmisera Health Centre and Dhaulagiri Provincial Hospital.
