The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on Monday arrested Pushpa Raj Bhattarai, a joint secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in connection with an alleged passport fraud case.
The arrest came after the District Attorney’s Office at the Kathmandu District Court filed a case against Bhattarai on July 27, accusing him of illegally issuing travel documents to five Tibetan refugees using forged papers 17 years ago.
The Kathmandu District Court had issued an arrest warrant after Bhattarai failed to appear before the court following the filing of the case.
CIB chief Additional Inspector General Uma Chaturvedi confirmed that Bhattarai was arrested based on the court warrant. He is being produced before the Kathmandu District Court for further legal proceedings.
