A landslide has blocked a section of the Koshi Highway at Sirek in ward 4 of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality in Sankhuwasabha, bringing traffic to a complete halt.
The Khandbari–Kimathanka road section was obstructed on Friday afternoon.
Police said around 10 to 15 metres of the road has been covered by the landslide. Vehicles and passengers travelling through the area were affected.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Kumar Prasad Mainali of the District Police Office said a police team was deployed immediately after the incident. He said coordination is underway with local authorities and concerned agencies to clear the debris and reopen the road.
Repeated rockfalls have further buried the road section, complicating clearance efforts. Authorities said work is ongoing in coordination with local units and road agencies to remove the debris.
The Khandbari–Kimathanka road section, part of the Koshi Highway, is a key transport route in Sankhuwasabha. Its closure has affected residents of Bhotkhola, travellers, and cargo transport vehicles.
Ram Bahadur Gurung, chief of the North–South Koshi Road Project, said landslides have been increasing along the road in recent times. He urged travellers and drivers to remain cautious.
The project office and local authorities are mobilising equipment to clear the landslide and restore traffic movement.
