Curfew imposed in parts of Kathmandu
Order enforced in Baneshwar-Tinkune area from 4:25pm to 10pm after pro-monarchy forces resort to arson and vandalism.
Post Report
The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, on Friday, issued a curfew order in the Baneshwar-Tinkune and surrounding areas after pro-monarchy forces vandalised and set fire to private homes, shops, media houses, political party offices and government property.
The order has been imposed from 4:25pm to 10pm today, Chief District Officer Rishiram Tiwari said in the order.
The order prohibits movement, gatherings, rallies, protests, assemblies, and demonstrations within the designated boundaries.
The area extends from Gaushala to the airport, Gairigaun, Tinkune, and Koteshwar. It also includes Koteshwar to Jadibuti Bridge, Koteshwar to Balkumari Bridge, Baneshwar Chowk to Shankhamul Bridge, and Gaushala Chowk to Old Baneshwar and New Baneshwar Chowk.
Demonstrators earlier in the afternoon damaged multiple buildings and set them on fire. The situation turned tense after pro-monarchy protesters broke through the police barricade before the conclusion of their assembly near the Tinkune area, designated by the district authority for their protest.
Several security personnel and protesters were injured in the clash at Tinkune during a protest calling for the restoration of the Hindu kingdom on Friday.
Earlier, protesters vandalised multiple buildings and set them on fire in Tinkune. What was promised to be a peaceful rally turned violent as demonstrators smashed the windows of a building along the roadside.
Protesters also vandalised the central office of the CPN (Unified Socialist) and set it on fire.
