The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has warned against celebrating the Teej festival with excessive extravagance.
The office has appealed to avoid organising ‘unnecessary extravagance and costly events’, stating that those who do so may face legal action under the Social Practices (Reform) Act, 1976, and its regulations.
According to the notice, lavish celebrations during Teej have increased in recent years compared to the past.
“The Social Practices (Reform) Act, 1976, and its regulations provide clear guidelines for organising religious, social, and cultural festivals. Therefore, the administration strongly requests that no extravagant events be organised,” the notice reads.
“Any Teej events featuring unnecessary extravagance and expense will be closely monitored, and legal action as per the prevailing law.”
