Chairperson of Ireland’s upper house, Jerry Buttimer, paid a courtesy call on President Ramchandra Paudel on Thursday.
During the meeting at Sheetal Niwas, President Paudel stressed the need for the two nations to work together to reduce the impact of climate change by saving the mountains and protecting water resources.
Paudel said that protecting the mountains was not just Nepal’s but a common challenge for the international community as well and that countries with high carbon emission should increase investment in an effort to reduce the effects of climate change.
The President also underscored that the relationship between the two countries, built on mutual cooperation and understanding, should be strengthened in the days to come.
The Nepal-Ireland relation should become multifaceted and the nations should move forward in international forums together, Paudel added.
Buttimer expressed astonishment and thrill at the provision of the people’s rights in Nepal’s constitution.
He arrived in Kathmandu on January 8, leading a five-member delegation, at the invitation of National Assembly chair Ganesh Prasad Timilsina.
